DTI Electric Yard Truck Surpasses 30,000 Hours

Key Highlights: DTI, an affiliate of Dot Foods, Inc., partnered with Orange EV to integrate zero-emission trucks into its fleet. Deployed in 2018, this first electric terminal truck has transformed operations at DTI’s distribution centers. By replacing diesel-powered vehicles, DTI reduced its carbon footprint while maintaining high productivity. The truck’s performance has exceeded expectations, supported by charging stations that ensure consistent uptime across multiple shifts. This infrastructure has been vital to keeping the fleet operational and efficient. Kevin Buss, DTI’s Director of Fleet Maintenance, praised the milestone: “We’re proud to reach this incredible milestone with our electric terminal trucks. These trucks have consistently supported our operations, and the 30,000-hour mark proves the durability and reliability of Orange EV’s electric terminal trucks in our high-demand environments.” He emphasized the broader impact, including safer conditions for drivers and ongoing environmental benefits. Orange EV, based in Kansas City, has been a critical partner in this success. Kurt Neutgens, President & CTO of Orange EV, noted, “Dot Transportation has demonstrated what’s possible when a company prioritizes innovation in its fleet operations.” He highlighted that the truck’s original battery pack remains in use, a testament to the design’s quality. With over 1,300 trucks in its fleet nationwide, Orange EV continues to lead in sustainable transportation solutions. Looking ahead, DTI plans to expand its electric fleet by adding four more Orange EV trucks in 2025. This follows the addition of three trucks earlier, which further reduced greenhouse gas emissions. DTI’s efforts position it as a leader for companies aiming to balance profitability with environmental responsibility. The partnership with Orange EV sets a benchmark for the industry, proving electric trucks can deliver long-term value. Dot Foods, Inc., and its transportation arm, DTI, manage a vast network distributing 125,000 products across all 50 states and over 55 countries. With 1,800 trucks, DTI operates one of North America’s largest private fleets. Orange EV, founded in 2012, supports this scale with its zero-emission Class 8 trucks, logging over 20 million miles nationwide. Together, they’re driving a shift toward greener, more efficient fleet operations. Tire Rack Leads Sustainability Initiative in South Bend with Electric Terminal Truck Project

Drive Clean Indiana’s Program Director, Ryan Lisek said, “This project shows great leadership from an Indiana-based company to decarbonize its emissions from every tire that is transported at this facility. YMX Logistics Deploys 20 Orange EV Electric Yard Trucks

“This relationship between YMX and Orange EV is a significant step forward in transforming yard operations across North America,” said Matt Yearling, CEO of YMX Logistics. “Besides the initial benefits of reduction in emissions and carbon footprint, our customers are also seeing improvements in the overall operational efficiency and seeking to expand. Our team members have also been sharing positive feedback about their new equipment and highlighting the positive impact on their health and day-to-day activities.” One of the most interesting aspects of this story – . – is that this isn’t a story about California’s ports, which mandate EVs. Instead, YMX is truly deploying these trucks throughout the country, with at least four currently in Chicago (and more on the way). “Our collaboration with YMX Logistics represents a powerful stride in delivering sustainable yard solutions at scale for enterprise customers,” explains Wayne Mathisen, CEO of Orange EV. “With rising demand for electric yard trucks, our joint efforts ensure that more companies can access the environmental, financial, and operational benefits of electrification … this is a win for the planet, the workforce, and the bottom line of these organizations.” We interviewed Orange EV founder Kurt Neutgens on a few months back, but if you’re not familiar with these purpose-built trucks, it’s worth a listen.
